Chartered on the campus of Clark Atlanta University, the Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a proud legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. For decades, our chapter has empowered women, uplifted communities, and carried forward the vision of our 22 illustrious Founders.
Through campus programs, community initiatives, and lifelong bonds of sisterhood, Sigma Chapter continues to shape leaders who make an impact both at CAU and on a national level.
Chapter History
January 1, 1924, when Sigma Chapter, now Atlanta Alumnae Chapter, was chartered in the Southern Region. This chapter, comprised of young women from Atlanta University and Spelman College, was the first authorized in Georgia, the second in the Southern Region, and the nineteenth in the United States…
Sorority History
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The Sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa...

Chartered on May 6, 1931, Sigma Chapter proudly serves as the home of Delta women at Clark Atlanta University. Since our founding, we have upheld the legacy of our 22 Founders by remaining steadfast in our commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. Through innovative programming, impactful community initiatives, and a dedication to excellence, Sigma Chapter continues to shine as a beacon of leadership and service on our campus and beyond.
